Smoke and Bourbon

Smoke and Bourbon is a hard-boiled detective novella following Jack Delaney, a cynical LAPD detective in 1940s Hollywood who uses bourbon to silence the artillery-shell nightmares of his service in the Pacific. The story sees Delaney forced into sweeping Syndicate crimes under the rug for his corrupt superior, Lieutenant Briggs, after taking "dirty cash" that traps him in a cycle of compromise and guilt.
