Between Two Heartbeats

A woman, six months pregnant, receives a late-night call that her mother, who is in hospice, is nearing the end. Unable to make it in time, she learns of her passing shortly after. In the quiet of the night, she and her sister grieve together while the rest of the house sleeps.
